Scan Pro Receipts (“we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the Scan Pro Receipts Android app (“App”) and the tj-s.ca website handle information. It applies to users who download the App from Google Play and visitors to our website.

Summary: Receipt scanning and OCR run on your device. We do not collect your receipt images or extracted receipt fields unless you choose to email them to support. The App does send limited technical and entitlement information to Google Firebase so we can manage free trials, purchases, and app access.

1. Who we are

Scan Pro Receipts is published by TJ Schiller. For privacy questions or deletion requests, contact support@tj-s.ca.

2. Receipt data (processed on your device)

The App is designed as a local, on-device receipt manager. When you scan or enter receipts, the App may process information such as vendor name, date, amounts, taxes, tips/fees, categories, comments, and related images or PDFs.

  • This receipt data is stored on your device according to your backup and export settings.
  • We do not upload or store your receipt content on our servers as part of normal App use.
  • We only receive receipt content if you explicitly choose to send it to us (for example, by emailing support or using an in-app “send for OCR improvement” flow).

3. Information the App sends to our backend

To operate free trials, paid access, and basic service integrity, the App communicates with Google Firebase (Firestore, Cloud Functions, Firebase Installations, and related Google infrastructure). This communication uses anonymous or pseudonymous identifiers—not your name, email, or receipt contents.

3.1 Entitlement and usage records (Firestore)

When you install or open the App, we may create or update an anonymous entitlement record associated with your installation. Typical fields include:

  • androidIdHash — a one-way hash derived from a device identifier (not your raw device ID)
  • firebaseInstallationId — an anonymous Firebase installation identifier
  • Timestamps such as createdAt, installTimestamp, expiryTimestamp, lastSeenAt, previousSeenAt
  • App version string
  • installCountry and lastSeenCountry (ISO country codes)
  • appOpenCount — how often the App has been opened
  • z_lastShown — whether the main app or paywall screen was shown last (for example “app” or “paywall”)
  • After purchase, purchaseInfo may include purchase type, purchase status (for example “PURCHASED”), and a Google Play purchase token reference used to validate entitlement

These records are used to enforce trial periods, recognize purchases, prevent abuse, and understand aggregate product usage. They are not used to read your receipts.

3.2 Google Play billing

If you buy the App or an in-app product through Google Play, payment is processed by Google. We do not receive your full payment card details. We receive purchase confirmation information from Google Play so the App can unlock paid features.

3.3 Play Integrity (optional)

On supported devices, the App may send a Google Play Integrity token to our backend when syncing entitlement data. Google returns integrity verdicts (for example, app licensing or device integrity signals). We use this to reduce fraud and unauthorized use. We do not use Integrity tokens to access receipt content.

3.4 What we do not collect in normal App use

  • Your name, mailing address, or phone number (unless you include them in a support email)
  • Receipt images or OCR text from routine scanning
  • Precise GPS location
  • Contacts, SMS, or call logs

4. Device permissions

The App may request permissions needed for its features:

  • Camera — to scan receipts
  • Storage / media access — to save exports, backups, or images you choose
  • Notifications — for optional reminders you enable
  • Google Play Billing — to process in-app purchases
  • Internet — to sync entitlement/purchase status and call Firebase services

You can deny some permissions, but related features may not work.

5. Voluntary information you send us

If you contact support@tj-s.ca or voluntarily submit receipt samples for troubleshooting or OCR improvement, we receive whatever you include in that message (email address, description, attachments). We use that information only to respond or improve the App. We recommend redacting sensitive data (such as full payment card numbers) before sending receipts.

6. Website (tj-s.ca and learn.tj-s.ca)

When you visit our marketing or help sites, we may collect:

  • Basic analytics (for example, page views and referral sources) via Google Analytics
  • Information you submit through contact or support forms or email links

Website analytics help us improve content and navigation. Our sites may link to Google Play, YouTube, and other third-party services governed by their own policies.

7. How we use information

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App and website
  • Manage trials, purchases, and feature access
  • Detect abuse, fraud, and technical issues
  • Respond to support requests
  • Understand aggregate usage trends (not to sell receipt content)

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your receipt data for advertising profiles.

8. Third-party service providers

We rely on trusted providers that process data on our behalf, including:

  • Google Firebase / Google Cloud — entitlement storage and backend functions
  • Google Play — app distribution and billing
  • Google Analytics — website usage (website only)

Their handling of data is subject to Google’s terms and privacy policies. Firebase data may be processed in countries where Google operates data centers.

9. Data retention

  • On-device receipt data remains on your device until you delete it, uninstall the App, or remove backups you created.
  • Firebase entitlement records are kept as long as needed to operate trials, purchases, fraud prevention, and legal obligations, unless you request deletion (see below).
  • Support emails are retained as long as needed to resolve your request and for reasonable business records.

10. Your choices and deletion requests

You may request deletion of your backend entitlement / Firebase records at any time.

To request deletion, email support@tj-s.ca with:

  • Subject line: Data Deletion Request
  • Your Firebase Installation ID if available (shown in App settings/support flows when provided)
  • Any other details that help us locate the anonymous record

We will process valid requests within a reasonable time, subject to legal or operational requirements (for example, fraud prevention or purchase dispute records). Deleting backend records may affect trial or purchase recognition on future installs.

To remove receipt data stored on your phone, delete receipts in the App, clear App storage, or uninstall the App.

11. Children’s privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information processed through our services. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; you are responsible for securing your device and any backups you create.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App or website after changes means you accept the updated policy.
